'Where One Starts From': An introduction to writing poetry with Annemarie Ní Churreáin

During National Heritage Week, poet Annemarie Ní Churreáin will host a short workshop introducing participants to the craft of writing poetry. Participants will engage with the form through close reading, creative exercises and discussion. This workshop is perfect for those who wish to start writing poetry and require an opportunity to get started. No experience required and no obligation to share writing or read aloud on the day. Places must be booked in advance.

Baggot Street Literary Walking Tour: Bards of Baggot Street

Patrick Kavanagh, Brendan Behan, Elizabeth Bowen, W.B. Yeats: Irish literature on the doorsteps of the city - literally!

 

Join actor Paul O'Hanrahan on a summer stroll along Baggot Street, revealing the wealth of literary and theatrical connections in Dublin 2. The walk includes performances, new discoveries about the area's past and interludes at some of the city's most famous Victorian hostelries.


Meet in The Waterloo Pub, 36 Upper Baggot Street at 3.00pm.

The two-hour tour finishes at Toner's Pub, 139 Lower Baggot Street and stops en route at no.51 Pub, Haddington Road.

Newcastle Arts Festival Poetry Slam

Newcastle Arts Festival is hosting a Poetry Slam. All readers are welcome.

Participants can register on the night. Names will be drawn at random throughout the night. Participants will have three minutes in which to compete, and the judges will score who goes through to the next round. There will be three rounds in all, and the outright winner will be crowned Slam Champion.

Feis Teamhra: A Turn at Tara 2014

The  seventh annual Feis Teamhra / A Turn at Tara features readings and performances by internationally-recognized Irish writers and musicians. The headliners this year are Nual Ní Dhomhnaill, Hugo Hamilton and Christine Tobin, with contributions form Susan McKeown and Paul Muldoon, the co-curators of Feis Teamhra. Admission is free.
